Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT (LUT University) is a pioneering research university in Finland, bringing together the fields of science and business since its inception in 1969. Both employees and students are the international community - around 6,000 students and experts who are involved in research, education and international cooperation. LUT is an international university: over 30% of incoming students are foreigners, which naturally underscores the importance of LUT in the international arena. As of 2014, LUT University is one of the 600 best universities in the world (Times Higher Education and QS ranking), as well as one of the 20 most promising and dynamically developing universities in the world (report by the consulting company Firetail). Currently, the main areas of research conducted in LUT are clean energy and water, circular economy (circular economy) and sustainable business. LUT University has extensive experience in the implementation of projects related to solutions (organizational, technological, etc.) for the circular economy at the local, national and international level, effectively cooperating with both industrial and academic partners. The LUT University established the LUT SAWE research platform, which focuses on the use of various raw materials from the water and wastewater sector, including nutrients (phosphorus, nitrogen), identified in wastewater and sludge, in line with the concept of the circular economy.
